Hey, I'm Dr. Childs. Welcome.

If you've landed here, you probably found me through a video, an article, or a bottle of one of my supplements, and you want to know who's behind it.

What I've created

What I've created

I always say that if doctors did their job, I wouldn't have one.

Most of what you'll find with my name on it exists because a thyroid patient needed it and nobody was making it. Here's the list:

Devices

Generic red light panels were never made for the thyroid. They have one or two wavelengths, weak output, and no way to sit on your neck. So I designed one that does.

  • Thyro Light. The first red light therapy device created specifically for thyroid patients. Four wavelengths, 240 light sources, and a silicone wrap that covers the whole gland. Over 2,000 thyroid patients use it, and it holds a 4.8 star rating from verified reviews.
  • Thyro Face Light. The same quad wavelength design in a face wrap, for the puffiness, moon face, and skin changes that come with a slow thyroid. Released April 2026.
  • Thyro Hair Light. A red light cap for thyroid hair loss with 6 minute sessions. Released April 2026.
  • Thyroid Massager. A handheld neck device for the fullness, tightness, and lymphatic congestion that come with thyroid problems.

Supplements

Over 20 formulas, and every one of them was made for a thyroid patient, not adapted from a generic multivitamin. The ones people ask me about most:

The doctor directory

The most common question I get is "where do I find a doctor like you?"

So I made a directory. It's the largest online directory of doctors who prescribe T3 and NDT, with 275 vetted or listed providers and counting. Every one of them either came recommended by a thyroid patient, applied and was verified, or shows up in public prescribing records for liothyronine or desiccated thyroid.

For practitioners

For practitioners

If you treat thyroid patients and want to carry my products in your clinic, apply for a wholesale account.

You'll get 40 to 50% off MSRP, and over 140 practitioners already do this.

Approved wholesale accounts are also added to the doctor directory, which is where thousands of thyroid patients a month go looking for someone who prescribes T3 and NDT. If you prescribe them, you should be on it.

My story

Why I do this

Two words: my wife and my mother.

Both of them had thyroid problems that went undiagnosed for years. And both of them kept having symptoms after they finally got the "standard" treatment from endocrinologists.

My wife had low T3 syndrome and thyroid resistance. My mom had Hashimoto's with flares that no dose of medication seemed to settle. I couldn't watch them keep suffering, so I set out to fix it myself.

Was it quick? No. I made mistakes along the way, including one with iodine and NDT that flared my mom's antibodies. But I learned, and what I learned became the foundation of everything I've made since.

I'd already had my own wake up call in residency. Constant stress, no sleep, and a diet of sugar and energy drinks left me with gut problems, weekly migraines, and the kind of fatigue that follows you all day. A mentor helped me see what my training had taught me to dismiss, and fixing it changed the direction of my career. I chose functional medicine over a traditional specialty and opened my own practice.

Then I closed it.

Not because it didn't work. It worked well. But a one on one practice caps the number of people you can help at a few thousand over a lifetime, and there are millions of thyroid patients who need better information than they're getting. So I voluntarily retired my Arizona medical license and put 100% of my time into research, education, and making the products I couldn't buy for my own family.

Today that's 600+ articles, 700+ videos, 388 podcast episodes, 37 free tools, 3 white papers, and a line of supplements and devices used by over 100,000 thyroid patients.

My goal is 1 million.

Things I've named

Things I've named

After ten years of writing about the thyroid, a few of my terms took on a life of their own. If you've heard one of these and wondered where it came from, it came from here.

  • The hypothyroid body shape. The predictable pattern of changes a slow thyroid makes to your face, neck, and body, and how to reverse them.
  • The thyroid-gut tax. Why gut problems cost you thyroid function, and how fixing your gut can raise it by 20% or more.
  • Thyroid feet. The six changes to your feet that point to a thyroid problem.
  • The 10 day thyroid reset. A done-for-you plan for getting started.
  • Optimal, not normal. The idea behind every calculator I've made: your labs can sit inside the reference range and still be wrong for you.
FAQ

Questions people ask about me

Is Dr. Westin Childs a real doctor?

Yes. I'm a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. I earned my biology degree at Brigham Young University and my medical degree at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine, then trained at the University of South Florida and Sky Ridge Medical Center.

Does Dr. Childs still see patients?

No. My practice is closed, I don't see patients, and I don't give individualized medical advice. I work on research, education, and product formulation full time.

What happened to his medical license?

I voluntarily retired my Arizona license a few years ago so I could put all of my time into reaching thyroid patients at scale instead of one at a time. Nothing was taken from me. It was my choice, and I'd make it again. The full story is here.

Did Dr. Childs really create the Thyro Light?

Yes. The Thyro Light is the first red light therapy device created specifically for thyroid patients. I designed it, wrote the white paper on how it works, and sell it through restartmed.com. The Thyro Face Light and Thyro Hair Light followed in 2026.

Where can I buy his supplements?

At restartmed.com, on Amazon under the Dr. Westin Childs brand, and at Walmart. Restart Medical LLC is the only authorized seller. If you see them anywhere else, they're not from me.

Is drwestinchilds.com his website?

No. My only official websites are restartmed.com and this one, westinchilds.com. Any other site using my name isn't mine.

How do I find a doctor who treats the way you write about?

Use the directory. It's the largest online list of doctors who prescribe T3 and NDT, and you can search it by state.

How do I contact him?

Email hello@restartmed.com for anything about orders or products. For press and partnerships, see the contact page. I'm not able to answer personal medical questions by email.
